Interested in piano, theory, or music history lessons?
Welcome! I’m a piano teacher in Singapore. I taught in London from 2013-24, with students aged 5 to 50+. I now teach principal study piano, chamber music, and academics at NAFA-University of the Arts Singapore. As a Teaching Assistant at RCM, I delivered historical music lectures, seminars, and essay tutorials for undergraduates. I value healthy and efficient technique, with supple fingerwork, flexible wrist and arm assistance, and full body engagement to produce good sound. For students who seek all-rounded musicianship, I also integrate theory and history with the practical element. My students are committed to musical appreciation and long-term growth. I believe in giving young students a voice and maintain honest, two-way communication with students and their parents. I also teach online for international students and can work bilingually in English and Chinese. I mainly teach students located in the Central and Northeast areas. Here are the pathways you can pursue with me:
Exams & Auditions
All practical and theory grades for ABRSM and Trinity, all diploma levels.
GCSE/A-level. DSA auditions.
Conservatoire and university auditions and interview prep.
Student achievements include: Liqi’s (age 18) BMus offers to study at the prestigious RCM London and RNCM, an RCS scholarship, and her ARSM score of 48/50; Elinora’s perfect score for GCSE practical; Aden’s (age 10-11) music scholarship to the competitive private school City of London, and a 99/100 score for his Trinity G6.
Academic Writing
Programme notes
Essays
Lecture recitals, audience engagement.
I also do ad hoc sessions with students who want extra support with crafting lecture recitals, programme notes, and essays. Topics can include the music of any instrument or vocal music, not just piano.
Performances
Festivals
Competitions
Concerts
Student awards include: Martha for Chopin and Sonata Open at the Woking Music Festival 2023 and North London Music Festival 2024; Liqi’s 1st and 2nd prizes at the 2021 UK Royal International Art Competition, 2022 J. S. Bach International Open Music Competition, and Golden Statuette Award (Shenzhen); Ava at the Stratford and East London Festival; and Kairui at the London Youth Piano Competition.
Musical Development
It is often fruitful to develop your musicality and technique without being restricted by an exam structure or a specific timeline (or to just learn first and decide on these goals later!) This pathway suits students who seek greater flexibility to choose the music they love the most, but it can also be tailored to jazz/pop musicians who want to train in classical technique, or music teachers who want to upskill.

Testimonials from students and their parents
Throughout my university audition preparation, as I was in Shenzhen, we had lessons online but were not limited by this factor, Ning Hui always demonstrated techniques for me and provided diverse practice methods. She sent me detailed practice notes after each lesson. Additionally, she has great knowledge of music history beyond piano playing, and often assigned me tasks such as researching composers' historical contexts, understanding Italian terms, and analysing contrapuntal music. She gave detailed feedback on my homework and recommended authoritative reference books that were helpful to me. She also shared knowledge from her research, which helped me realise that there are many outstanding women composers in the world. During my audition preparation, Ning Hui was encouraging and patient in her guidance, enabling me to keep pace with her teaching. As a result, I successfully gained admission to the Royal College of Music (London) BMus (Hons) programme in 2022. I am deeply grateful for Ning Hui's dedicated guidance!

Ning has been teaching our two children (Aden & Ava) piano for over 4 years and we have been very pleased with her professionalism, patience, piano technique and overall attitude. During this time, Ning has played an instrumental role in preparing Aden for his music scholarship audition to the City of London School, where he was offered the scholarship. She was able to adapt the lessons to suit our goal in this regard. She has always provided great constructive feedback and engaging lesson structures which we have found very helpful. She also played a crucial role in developing confidence in our little girl Ava over the years. With Ning’s guidance, we are thrilled with her progress.

I’ve had the privilege of being taught by Dr Ning Hui See for over 3 years as an adult learner, returning to the piano after many years without a teacher. I am working towards a Trinity ATCL diploma. I feel privileged to have teacher who is active as a performer. Plus, being taught by a recent PhD graduate from the Royal College of Music in London is giving me the best, most current methods of learning. My lessons started with Skype (pandemic), and I find that really a fine way to learn. I have also had in-person lessons, and these give another dimension and are also excellent.
Our lessons cover all aspects of piano performance, from technique, to musicality, to presentation. Ning Hui has been very patient with developing my technical skills with tips and practice methods which I had never learnt before as a young person. She has a strong focus on musicality of the playing, which I find helpful. With each lesson, she writes a clear list of practice points. With her encouragement, I found the confidence to join other adult amateurs to play through pieces together, and I have participated in various music festivals, receiving distinction marks and even a trophy. These experiences have been invaluable in understanding and improving my playing technically and musically. I highly recommend Dr Ning Hui.
